Sorry. I forgot to say that we will be away this weekend – we’re visiting our lovely former neighbours who are now living in the Lake District. So, no News today! I am putting this together on Wednesday, before we leave. Fortunately, we have much of our copy ready for (repeat) publication – we’ll steal the last bit of our Polarsteps SE Asia travel log to fill the gaps.
A relaxed start to the day – we didn’t need to leave for the airport until about 15.00 so we enjoyed a delicious breakfast, gathered our possessions and checked out of the hotel. Thankfully, they had a place to leave our luggage while we scampered about for the last time in Bangkok.
Penny had the great idea to jump aboard a river boat and have a little tour. So we did.
And it was a lot of fun. We stopped at a market just by the canal where we were able to secure a couple of basebll caps – authentic, vintage Los Angeles. Perhaps they should have used a spellcheck? We also visited the most enormous Buddha I’ve ever seen.

After the boat tour, we visited the Olive Kitchen again for a quick bite and then made our way to the airport for our evening flight back home.
We arrived at the airport in good time and proceeded to attempt to check in at one of the many automated terminals available. Sadly, the whole of Qatar Airlines’ systems had crashed and automated check in was unavailable. Do you remember those days way back when? When you had to enter a Disneyland-style roped off queue? That’s what it was like – hundreds of passengers having to wait while everything was done manually.
The only thing required was a lot of patience and eventually we were cleared for take-off.

The flight from Bangkok to Doha was fine after the stewardess booted a man who had made himself comfortable in my seat. Penny and I had the front row seats with oodles of legroom. This chap had a middle seat in one of the rows further back. Apparently, he decided to arbitrarily change seats to mine. No way, José.
We had about a three-hour stopover in Doha and then on to our BA flight to Heathrow which was very comfortable and very smooth. We even gained about half an hour so arrived at the airport before our appointed chauffeur (Nick) had arrived to greet us.
Back home to be greeted by a dog who went ballistic at our return. We missed you too, Daisy, and it’s a delight to be home again.
I won’t bother describing the projectile vomiting I enjoyed for the rest of the afternoon.
And so it ends – a great trip which we thoroughly enjoyed. Let’s do it again sometime.
And finally, no words needed.

Meanwhile, keep breathing, keep happy, keep smiling, keep exercising, be good, be careful, and keep safe. And be gentle to wasps and bees – we need all the pollinators we can get.
Lots of love to you all,
Greg
