Another terrific week – mainly blue skies and warm to almost hot temperatures. Indeed, on Friday I ran across an article which suggested that the temperature in London was going to be higher than Athens and Hawaii. They were predicting something approaching 27o C (81o F) which would be the hottest day so far this year. The glorious weather has only been slightly soiled by a spot or two of rain and the occasional rumble of thunder, mainly in the evening or overnight. Never mind, the gardeners “need” the rain.

And again, the solar panels have been working overtime.

We had another outing to the bluebells at Everdon Stubbs on Sunday last week. We met up with Adam, Ava and the girls for a leisurely stroll through the gloriously gorgeous oceans of colour. I think they were even better than our previous visit (the bluebells, not Adam, Ava and the girls – they are always wonderful). More photos, I’m afraid.

Lots of trees for Jessie to climb and rope swings for the girls to have a twirl. Lovely afternoon capped off with a barbeque at ours afterwards. Splendid.
I know we have unbelievable grandchildren – smart, beautiful/handsome, charming and personable. So, no need then to share Jessie’s latest certificate of excellence from school.

I’ll save you the trouble of zooming in to read the certificate:
This certificate is awarded to Jessica Stragnell for consistently showing a brilliant attitude to learning, trying your best in everything that you do and being a ray of sunshine in the classroom. Well done, Jess!
Miss Daisley, 30 April 2026
She certainly is a ray of sunshine!
Thankfully, the good weather hung around long enough for the event of the month – the Moreton Pinkney Garden Club annual plant sale. Lots of people, lots of plants and other gardening implements for sale and some lovely cakes and muffins which, naturally, I was obliged to sample. Penny had the village children making flowers out of paper straws, brightly coloured paper and sticky tape. All in all, a great success.

And finally, the Head Gardener’s hard work continues to reward us with colourful views.

The Clematis Montana that graces our garden fence is actually Jim & Judy’s from next door. We get by far the better view on our side of the fence. (I think the red bucket really makes the image stand out).
And finally, finally, we welcomed back our House Martins to the eaves at the front of the house. There was a bit of a squabble and argument over who had booked the penthouse suite just above the front bedroom window – lots of screeching and dive-bombing. But, I guess they settled their disagreement – they all seem to be swooping into the nests and making themselves at home. Like the swallows, it’s wonderful to have them back again.
Meanwhile, keep breathing, keep happy, keep smiling, keep exercising, be good, be careful, and keep safe. And, be gentle to wasps and bees – we need all the pollinators we can get. And, hold your loved ones close.
Lots of love to you all,
Greg
