Another great week! We’ve been in Northumbria again and enjoyed the company of our very dear friends and former neighbours Lesley and Graham. It was a lot of fun to show them around the various places we’ve discovered so far.
Daisy and their spaniel Bertie enjoyed dashing around the beach as we sedately strolled along. We visited each of our three local beaches and made the obligatory trek along the coastal path to Dunstanburgh Castle. This time, we drove to Craster and dropped a car and then made our way to Embleton Beach to start the hike. The castle is about halfway between the two so, instead of having to turn around and retrace our steps, we were able to do the walk all along the coastal path.

Craster, is a cute little fishing village and, as some of you will know, is the home of kippers. Naturally, we bought some for Saturday breakfast and they were delicious!
So, that’s what we’ve been doing – hope your week has been similarly pleasant and filled with fun and laughter.
We’re heading home on Tuesday for a couple of weeks – the Moreton Pinkney Annual Horticultural Show is on Saturday and there’s much to do before then. The weather has been awful for gardening – they’ve still had very little rain – but everyone is in the same boat. In any case, I don’t enter any category that requires any degree of work or diligence. I’ll try and throw a sourdough loaf together provided my starter isn’t fed up with having been left alone all this time. I’ll also probably grab a few plums off the trees and perhaps even a few pears. That’s my tip for success – enter a category that almost no one else enters and pluck some fruit off the trees which requires no effort on my part.
A few of my very favourite people have birthdays this week. Our friend Sue’s birthday is today and my youngest brother Steph’s is tomorrow. Many happy returns to the pair of you. And Tuesday would have been my mother’s 101st birthday – I can imagine her in one of her magnificent hats enjoying a celebration with friends and family. I guess they have birthday parties in the hereafter, don’t they? Love you.
Meanwhile, keep breathing, keep happy, keep smiling, keep exercising, be good, be careful, and keep safe. And, be gentle to wasps and bees – we need all the pollinators we can get. And, hold your loved ones close.
