What an exciting week – so much going on! And, as a bonus, it’s been a fairly decent week all told. A couple of very, very cold misty cloudy days at the beginning of the week – frozen fields and no mud. Bonus. The rest of the week’s been back to very mild temperatures with a bit of rain as well as some bright, clear skies. Lovely, apart from the muddy dog!
We had a great Zoom with Ben, Brex-Anna and Max on Sunday. Ben was getting ready to practice his sous vide method of cooking turkey for the big day. They were having friends over on Sunday evening to check out Turkey Experiment 1 and, assuming that turned out OK he was going to do it again on Thursday for Brex-Anna’s family. We’ve not had a report yet on how it went but I suppose no news is good news. They were planning their escape to the far east for a couple of weeks – they jetted off on Friday for a few days in Japan prior to setting off to Thailand to meet up with Adam, Ava and the girls in Chiang Mai. A couple of days in Hong Kong on the way back. Hope the travels all go smoothly – I’m sure they’ll have a great time.
Monday brought a couple of really exciting activities – we had a log delivery in the morning and then, in the afternoon, I had a visit to the optician. I know, how much fun is it possible for any one person to enjoy?
Lady Penelope helped me stack the wood in record time. This lot should get us through the winter. Daisy, of course, was in her element – lots and lots of bits and pieces of wood to chew.

After sorting the logs, I was off to the opticians in Banbury for my annual inspection. Thankfully, I was able to read most of what he asked me to and my prescription doesn’t need any tweaking on this occasion.
Tuesday was our anniversary and I did enjoy posting the historical/hysterical photo of our wedding on Facebook. It always gives folks a good laugh!

Nick sent a very cute card and posted a photo on Facebook.

I think Penny’s comment was a bit snarky. But true. She had to lower her standards significantly.
Wednesday, I had lunch with my very, very good friend and former neighbour Pete. I took him to the Pie Pub in Milton (near Adderbury) aka The Marlstone Tavern. I’d been a few times before and the selection of pies is still as lengthy as ever – I’ve still got a long way to go before I sample every one.

If you fancy joining me some time, the day’s menu is live-streamed from their website. Choose what you fancy and I’ll organise everything.
And the week just kept getting more and more exciting!
On Thursday we had a visit from Viktor, the carpet cleaner! His attendance was required because I had knocked an almost full glass of red wine all over the carpet in the front room a few days previously. Quelle merde! He did a great job and the carpet looks (almost) like new.
And then, Thursday afternoon we welcomed our lovely former neighbours for a visit. These are the ones who moved up to the Lake District a year or so ago and whom we’ve visited there on a couple of occasions. They are always a great tonic and it’s always good to see them.
And, I think that’s about it for this week. Phew!
Meanwhile, keep breathing, keep happy, keep smiling, keep exercising, be good, be careful, and keep safe. And be gentle to wasps and bees – we need all the pollinators we can get.
Lots of love to you all,
Greg
